Afon Cynffig Kenfig River
Pollution Incident 2026

A public record of evidence, updates and community action for the Afon Cynffig Kenfig River.

A Peace for Nature (APFN) is actively undertaking ongoing environmental monitoring and evidence gathering in relation to the pollution incident affecting the Afon Cynffig Kenfig River downstream of the Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water discharge associated with Marlas STW SPS, North Cornelly.

Since the incident was first identified, APFN has conducted multiple site visits involving field water quality testing, visual river assessments, photographic and video documentation, microbiological sampling and ongoing observational monitoring of river conditions both upstream and downstream of the affected discharge location.

Monitoring activities have included comparative sampling, assessment of ecological conditions within the affected reach and documentation of operational mitigation measures implemented within the river system.

APFN’s monitoring work is being undertaken using calibrated field equipment and established sampling procedures, with independent laboratory analysis also being undertaken where appropriate.

Representatives from Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Natural Resources Wales, local elected members, contractors and environmental consultants have been present during various stages of the monitoring activity.
